Does Having a Lip Tie or A Tongue Tie Cause Cavities?
I am answering a follower’s question today, and it is a great one and important topic to discuss. Having a lip or tongue tie does not mean that a mouth is doomed for disease, but it does make it more likely that disease will happen because the tongue is one of the most effective natural cleaners and bathers of the teeth.
When the skin attachment is too tight or low on the front it can make cleaning the front of the teeth difficult at best and if the tongue is tethered to the floor of the mouth a few things can happen. Cavities are only one of the consequence that is possible when it comes to a tie, but depending on the severity or location of the tie a myriad of emotional, physical and neurological issues can arise.
For a much more detailed list of possibilities, follow the link below. One of the best things that you can do if you suspect or know of a tie, make sure that you are practicing good pH control in the mouth, and test often to ensure pH neutrality.
