Healthy Oral Care and a Sensitive Gag Reflex?
Today’s question is….What’s the best way to maintain healthy oral care when you have a sensitive gag reflex?
When you have a sensitive gag reflex, maintaining oral health can be tricky, but if you start with the front of the mouth and work your way back you may find that you can cover more surface area before the reflex kicks in.Breathing slow deep breaths through your nose and spitting out saliva and toothpaste often as to avoid too much liquid in your mouth may be helpful.Gargling with an antiseptic rinse helps you to get to the areas in the back of the mouth that you may not be able to get to. Tooth and Gums Tonic is an amazing all natural super concentrated rinse, which contains only organic and wild harvested essential oils and herbs formulated by a dentist whose passion became making a product for his patients whose periodontal issues just seemed uncontrollable regardless of what type of care he provided them.
For 20 years, Dr. Bernard Schechter, DDS sought an alternative treatment to help his patients avoid periodontal surgery. He applied his advanced training in therapeutic herbology and microbiology to research natural treatments to help his patients with periodontal disease and bad breath. Hands down, I can say that this line of products is the most effective I have seen both in prescription and over the counter products in controlling gum disease and bacteria.
Another great option is using a Sulcabrush to clean the junction of the tooth and gums and access the “flossing” surfaces as well. The long skinny handle makes it easy to get to the back (this was 1 of 2 tools I could use in the beginning of pregnancy)!Last but not least, the HydroFloss is an irrigator (similar to WaterPik, but way more effective)!
Irrigation flushes the bacteria out from under the gums and in between the teeth, while the pulsating stream of water gently massages gums and helps to promote circulation to the gums which keeps them healthier and tighter to the tooth (this was the other tool that I could tolerate in the beginning of pregnancy).
Please note that I am an Oral Health Coach and design at home programs for individuals so that they can achieve a healthy mouth at home every day.
I’d love to offer you a solution to your issue that works, thanks for the great question, Bell!
