Oral Irrigation- An Effective Alternative to Flossing
Healthy gums do not bleed when you brush and floss, and rarely hurt when being cleaned by a dental professional.
Brushing and Flossing Aren’t Effective
Most of us brush our teeth on a regular basis and many of us floss as well. Yet 3 out of 4 adults suffer with some form of periodontal disease, which may actually lead to heart disease, stroke and diabetes. It seems to be that brushing and flossing aren’t as effective as we’ve been led to believe. In fact brushing and flossing combined rarely remove the bacteria and food in the areas that matter most, under the gums and in between the teeth. Oral Irrigation is one of the most effective ways to remove the bacteria and restore the health to your teeth and gums.
An Effective Alternative to Flossing
Oral irrigation cleans under the gums and in those “hard-to-reach” areas. Another point of interest is, even though brushing and flossing may disrupt plaque and biofilm, it does not remove it all. Biofilm is the initial layer of bacteria that allows the “bad” bacteria to build up in your mouth and cause either gum issues or cavities. This is what makes oral irrigation much more effective than anything else available for “at home use” vs having your teeth cleaned in the dental office.
Oral irrigators use a pulsating jet of water to remove plaque and food debris between teeth and below the gum line and improve gum health. Brushing only cleans the flat surfaces of the teeth, and flossing is designed to clean where teeth touch side by side. Irrigation washes away the bacteria and food that still remain. Because irrigators reach areas a toothbrush can’t, they are ideal for cleaning around crowns, bridgework, implants and braces.
When using irrigation on a regular basis, the gums often stop bleeding or hurting and teeth become much less sensitive.Imagine if you would a place where you’re not having to run yourself or family members to the dentist for the dreaded “cleaning”, only to have to go back because you or said loved one has a cavity, all the while being reminded that you “really should floss more often”! Instead what if you could have healthy gums that do not hurt and don’t bleed, and don’t require costly trips to the dentist!
